Trip to Trenel - Intercultural Awareness Project

Here I upload the powerpoint presentation we used to deliver the topic of Argentinian Banknotes:

We also prepared this game but, unfortunately, due to lack of time we couldn't use it.
It was an interactive powerpoint with questions and answers about different topics related to Argentinian culture. As this is not a Powerpoint Presentation all the effects and interactive features are lost.
Anyway, if someone wants it just ask for it and I'll send it to you!

And last a picture with the students!

Jack C. Richards on Lesson Plans

On this three-minute video Jack Richards talks about the importance of a lesson plan as being a resource for teachers but not as the owner and dictator of your class.

Good Characteristics of Teaching

I agree with most of my classmates as we have, more or less, chosen the same categories as regards what a good teacher is or should be. I think some of the most important are the following:

1- The fact that the teacher needs to care more than just about the student as a student of his/her own subject, but as an integrated subject who has plenty of needs and maybe problems. Therefore, the teacher should be sympathetic and understanding, neither acting mother-like nor disregarding students needs.

2- Most of us mentioned the importance of a teacher who is strict but at the same time, kind. One characteristic should not be an obstacle for the other to be present. As students we value teachers who are able to set rules and put limits without being too bossy, that is to say, those who are able to show that they are the authority without being authoritarian. At the same time, kindness is a good quality for a teacher to have because students do not like someone who does not treat them well. This attribute is related with N°1 as someone who is kind will tend to care more about his/her students, which results in more explanations, extra help, etc.

3- The ability to engage students in classes may also be one of the most important skills of a teacher. This characteristic will really show if a teacher is a good one or not, because turning a class into a fun and interesting one for ALL students is not an easy task. As formerly students at school we value those teachers who were ingenious enough so as to turn everybody's attention to what they were saying. Intriguing and exciting lessons are the result of a creative and resourceful teacher.

4- Last but not least, the key word for a teacher would be passion. Passionate teachers really transmit a positive energy and love for their subject when teaching. It really shows when a teacher enjoys what he/she does and it definitely influences his/her students' reaction towards the subject. Apart from these four features there are others, mentioned by my classmates and myself which are also important and which a teacher should possess. For example, he/ she commits to the work (Laura, Samanta, Federico, me), shows respect (Laura, Magalí), motivates students (Natalia), encourages an open and trusting learning environment (Carla, Laura), fosters critical thought (Laura), provides positive and personal feedback (Yoana).
It is difficult to choose one or two of these characteristics to define what good teachers are, perhaps because they seem to use many of these strategies and skills combined ones with others

Last, I share with you the wordle Magalí, Eliana and I created:

My Chemistry Teacher

I have had great teachers during high school and Monica was one of them. She was my chemistry teacher during two years at Unlpam School.
The whole class, including me, had developed a certain affection for her, we really liked her. She was always kind with us but she was not just like a friendly teacher who would let us do what we wanted to. She was strict and she would demand us to always comply.
Monica was a responsible and commited person and that is why in second year we chose her as our tutor. She was a good example for us, and helped us with every matter related to the subject. If one student did not understand she would explain until he /she understood. Besides, she cared about us in other aspects and if we had a problem she would listen to us. As a tutor she helped us organise the graduation for third year in which she put all her effort and time even though she had plenty of other things to do.
I remember her wearing comfortable and simple clothes like t-shirts and jeans. Her hair most of the times would be updo and that did not make her seem untidy. In my opinion, she just had the look of a hard-working teacher.
When we got to know that she would not be our teacher during our third, and last, year at school we were kind of sad, we would miss her a lot.
